Our Antarctica expedition with National Geographic Expeditions was planned as a fly-in, fly-out journey, allowing us to reach the Antarctic Peninsula from Puerto Natales, Chile in about two hours rather than spend two days crossing the Drake Passage each way. The National Geographic team was exceptional throughout—knowledgeable, deeply passionate, and consistently professional—and five unforgettable days brought us close to vast icebergs, penguin colonies, and the remarkable Antarctic landscape. A visit to an Emperor Penguin colony became an especially rare and unexpected highlight. Then, when bad weather prevented the return flight from picking us up, our itinerary changed and we crossed the Drake Passage after all.
